Portraits of Hope:

“Portraits of Hope” is a Family Homelessness Coalition Campaign to change the public’s perception of who is homeless.

Data shows that more than two-thirds of the NYC shelter population is made up of families with children. While there are many factors contributing to homelessness, domestic violence and evictions are the leading drivers.

In addition to the stress and instability that comes with homelessness, families are juggling work and school.

Almost half of adults in family shelter are employed or were working over the past year, and nearly 38,000 students live in shelter.

Six women, who have faced homelessness at different stages of their lives, generously shared their personal stories for a central component to the campaign, a Family Homelessness Documentary and Photo Series.
